About

Amy Van PeltAs the founder of Cedar Tree Fitness, I approach each new client with a deep well of empathy; I know what they are going through, because I have been through it myself. After many years of a consistent, but not very challenging exercise routine of walking and occasional low intensity strength training, I decided to “splurge” on a few visits with a personal trainer to see if I could add a bit to my routine. I was nervous – what would she expect me to do? What is personal training, really? What if I couldn’t do it?

HA! It was the start of a whole new me!

I quickly became hooked on how good the workouts made me feel, (stronger, more confident, more relaxed) and I really liked getting stronger and looking healthier. That inspired me to slowly change my diet. My personal trainer even got me to try running, an activity that I had previously hated because I always tried to run too fast, too far.

Over the course of a year I lost 30 pounds, stopped the decades long struggle with my weight, and was stronger than I had ever been! This was such a positive experience for me that I began to consider a career change. Now firmly in the second half of life, I am finally doing it! I studied and took classes to become a certified personal trainer, and I started Cedar Tree Fitness in Bellingham, Washington to work with mature adults in a private setting (their home or office, my studio, even outdoors in a park) so that others can experience the fun in movement that I have learned to love.

I especially enjoy the opportunity to introduce non-exercisers and casual exercisers to the fun and positive feelings that come from moving the body. As my husband says, “Motion is Lotion.”
