Small Stuff Adds Up

It’s true.  Small stuff that you do regularly adds up.  Almost anything that you do in your life, if you do it over and over again, will have a profound impact on your health and wellness.

For instance, if you can’t get through your day without coffee, switching to skim milk instead of cream will save you about 40 calories (more if you pour in a lot!).  40 calories may not seem like much, but if you have 1 cup of coffee with skim milk instead of cream every day for a year, you will have saved 14,600 calories, which adds up to 4 pounds.  And that’s for just 1 cup of coffee with a quarter cup of milk.

Thinking about adding a bit more exercise to your life?  Walk briskly for half an hour and you will burn about 150 calories.  Think how that adds up: you could lose 8 pounds in a year if you add 30 minutes of walking every other day and make no other changes at all!  And you will be benefiting your heart, your mood and overall health as well. As you start the New Year, think of small changes that you can make, changes that you can commit to for the long term.  You’ll be amazed how the small stuff adds up!
