We’re more than a week into National Walking Month – yes, October is a great time to start or continue a walking program! Walking is such an enjoyable activity, I can’t say enough about it! First, everyone knows how to do it. And you can do it anywhere, at any time. All you need is a comfortable pair of walking shoes.
Among the other benefits of regular walking are these:
- reduce cholesterol,
- lower blood pressure,
- improve sleep,
- boost cardiovascular endurance,
- build bone strength, and
- burn calories
- keep weight down.
No wonder that walking is among the most popular of fitness activities. Also, with the release of endorphins that occurs when you walk, your mood will improve.
30 minutes of activity most days of the week will maintain fitness. It doesn’t have to be done all at once – three, 10 minute periods of activity results in the same benefit as 30 minutes all at once. So no excuses – everyone can make time for a ten minute walk 3 times a day. To improve fitness, add in 2 or 3 more days of activity a week, and you will really see results.
Here I am walking at the “In the Shadow of the Sentinels Trail”.
You are the one who can make this happen. What are you waiting for?
